different objects. Why the difference? The answer is dust. The dark clouds that block light in a visible image can be penetrated by infrared radiation, which has a longer wavelength. When the light wavelength is larger than the dust particles, it passes through them unhindered. Thus in infrared light, astronomers can see deeper into clouds and find star clusters that cannot be seen in visible light.
